Derek Ryan began his vocal training with Dr. Veronica Dunne and continues with Robert Bicknell in London. He made his debut with the Rathmines and Rathgar Musical Society in Fiddler on the Roof, appearing on the Late Late show hosted then by Gay Byrne. His first principal role was Judd Fry in Roger and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma. He has sung across the east coast of America including a performance in Carnegie Hall. Oratorio work includes Handles Messiah and Samson, Hayden’s Creation and Season, Beethoven’s Mass in C. Faure’s Requiem. His operatic repertoire includes, Macbeth, Claudina Von Bella Lane, Il Trovatore, Martha, Tosca, Madame Butterfly, Dead Man walking, The Magic Flute, Obegon and The Marriage of Figaro.
Musical Theatre principal roles have included Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof, The Mikado, Yeoman of the Guard, The Gondoliers, Trial by Jury, Pirates of Penzance, Jesus Christ Superstar, Guys and Dolls, The Sound of Music, Hot Mikado.
He has co-written and starred in a tribute show to Paul Robeson that toured to great critical acclaim. Derek has performed in and directed many charity concerts for Cystic Fibrosis Association, Irish Cancer Society and the Hospice movement.
